Eating too fast is a bad habit and is not good for the dog’s digestion, which starts in the mouth.

Some dogs (and cats) have a tendency to gobble down their food so fast, that it can come back up within minutes.

Most likely, the food came back up whole, which is not a reflection of the food, but regurgitation from his eating too fast. (If the vomit has mush or digestive juices then you have to find what caused it.)

Why would a dog eat too fast?

  • It could be because of the time of day
  • It could be because the dog was excited
  • It could be because he liked the food so much

This is one reason why we recommend changing any food in your dog’s diet slowly.

Introducing a new food that tastes so good, could get the dog eating faster. And if your dog is a fast eater, this can be cause for concern.

In order to correct this, you have to change the feeding habits to change the response.

One way to do this is by using feeding dishes that slow down the dog’s fast eating. These dishes have columns that you pour the food around. The dog (or cat) has to then eat around the column which slows them down.

In doing research into the bowls, I found reports that the plastic bowls can get sharp edges from continuous eating. This slow-feeding dish had good reviews on Amazon:
