Our dog supplement ingredients and nutrients
Want to know exactly what goes into our natural dog supplements and why?
This glossary explains the key vitamins, minerals and compounds we use in every blend and how they support your dog’s health, from joints and digestion to brain function, heart health and immune support.
Every ingredient we use has a job to do and helps your dog live a healthier, happier life for longer.
Amino acids: Liver is a rich source of essential amino acids, the building blocks of protein, which support muscle maintenance, enzyme function and tissue repair.
B Vitamin complex: Brewer’s yeast is one of the richest natural sources of B vitamins, including B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12. Together, these nutrients support energy and red blood cell production, cognitive function and healthy skin and coat. B vitamins are also found in beef liver, herring and salmon, a useful top up for older dogs who may have trouble absorbing it.
Beta-carotene: A powerful antioxidant present in pumpkin and precursor to vitamin A, beta-carotene supports healthy skin, eyes and immune function. It also helps combat oxidative stress, a driver of age-related decline.
Beta-glucans: Natural polysaccharides in mushrooms that help regulate immune activity. Particularly useful for older dogs whose immune systems need balanced support.
Calcium: Essential for bone density, muscle contraction and proper nerve signalling, all important for keeping your dog active and mobile. It's found in kelp, beef bone broth and broccoli.
Chondroitin: Found in beef bone broth, it works alongside glucosamine to protect cartilage and absorb shock in joints. May help reduce inflammation and improve comfort during daily movement.
CoEnzyme Q10: Salmon naturally contains CoQ10, a nutrient that supports mitochondrial health and cardiovascular function, helping heart and brain cells produce energy more efficiently. CoQ10 levels decline with age, so topping them can be beneficial to older dogs.
Collagen: The most abundant protein in a dog’s body, collagen from beef bone broth helps maintain strong joints, tendons and ligaments especially important as natural production declines with age.
Erinacines: Neuroprotective compounds from Lion’s Mane mycelium linked to improved cognitive function, faster neural repair and protection against age-related decline in brain performance.
Fibre: A source of both soluble and insoluble fibre, broccoli supports digestion and helps maintain a healthy gut microbiome, a foundational part of whole-body health.
Folate: Plays a critical role in cell division, DNA repair and the production of red blood cells. Folate in Brewer's Yeats also helps regulate homocysteine, a compound linked to inflammation and ageing.
Fucoidan: A unique compound in kelp that helps modulate the immune system, reduce inflammation and support gut and cellular health.
Gelatin: Derived from collagen, gelatin in beef bone broth supports joint cushioning and flexibility. It also aids digestion by helping to repair the gut lining and soothe inflammation.
Glucosamine: A natural compound found in beef bone broth that supports cartilage repair and joint lubrication. Helps maintain mobility and slow age-related wear and tear on your dog’s joints.
Glutathione precursors: Reishi and Lion’s Mane help support the body’s natural production of glutathione, a master antioxidant that protects cells from oxidative damage and supports detoxification, especially in the liver and brain.
Glycine: An amino acid involved in everything from gut lining repair to neurotransmitter regulation. Glycine in beef bone broth also supports the liver’s natural detox pathways, helping clear waste products that can accumulate with age and reduced activity.
Hericenones: Found in Lion’s Mane fruiting body, these compounds help stimulate nerve growth factor, supporting healthy brain ageing and the regeneration of damaged or ageing neurons.
Iodine: Kelp is one of the best natural sources of iodine, a mineral dogs need in small but crucial amounts to support healthy thyroid function. The thyroid is like a master switch for metabolism, energy and growth, all of which tend to slow with age. Herring is also a natural source of iodine.
Iron (heme): Heme iron from liver is easily absorbed and crucial for red blood cell production and oxygen transport. It’s especially important for dogs with low energy or signs of anaemia.
Magnesium: Often overlooked but found in broccoli and kelp, magnesium supports everything from nerve signalling to energy production to protein synthesis. In older dogs, it’s especially helpful for maintaining muscle health and easing restlessness.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids (EPA and DHA): These long-chain fats in herring and salmon are essential for reducing chronic inflammation, a key driver of many age-related conditions in dogs, including arthritis, heart disease, and cognitive decline. They also support skin, coat, joint and brain health.
Phosphorus: Phosphorus in beef bone broth works with calcium to maintain healthy bones and teeth. Also supports energy production and cell repair throughout the body.
Polyphenols: Natural antioxidants found in abundance in kelp that help fight oxidative stress, reduce inflammation and protect cells from long-term damage, all key in supporting healthy ageing.
Potassium: Potassium in pumpkin and kelp helps regulate fluid balance, muscle function and heart rhythm, all of which become more important with age. A deficiency can lead to weakness, fatigue and irregular heart function.
Selenium: This trace mineral plays a vital role in protecting cells from oxidative stress and supporting immune function. It also helps regulate IGF-1, a growth factor linked to accelerated ageing, making selenium-rich foods like herring, salmon, Brewer's Yeast and beef liver crucial in helping dogs live healthier, happier lives for longer.
Soluble fibre: Pumpkin is rich in soluble fibre, which feeds beneficial gut bacteria and helps regulate digestion. A healthy microbiome is central to immune health, nutrient absorption and mood regulation.
Sulforaphane: A standout compound in broccoli, sulforaphane activates the body’s detoxification enzymes and antioxidant defences helping protect cells from damage and supporting long-term health.
Thiamine: Essential for nervous system function, energy metabolism and appetite regulation. Thiamine in Brewer's Yeast supports healthy brain signalling and is particularly important during periods of stress or illness.
Triterpenes: Known for their anti-inflammatory and adaptogenic effects, these compounds in Reishi mushrooms help the body handle physical and emotional stressors more efficiently.
Vitamin A: Liver is one of the richest sources of natural vitamin A (retinol), supporting healthy skin, vision and immune function. Unlike plant-based beta-carotene, retinol is immediately usable by the body.
Vitamin C: Broccoli and pumpkin are naturally rich in vitamin C, a key antioxidant that supports immune resilience, collagen production and recovery from oxidative stress.
Vitamin D: Dogs can’t make their own vitamin D the way humans can, they rely entirely on dietary sources. Salmon and herring provide a bioavailable form that supports strong bones, the immune system and muscle health.
Zinc: Supports immune function, skin health, and wound healing. Zinc in beef liver is also involved in enzyme systems that regulate ageing processes.
